Men's Servives

Men die at an earlier age than women. Men are less likely to get routine medical care or screenings than women. It’s important that men take care of themselves so that they can be there for their families and others. The Pinellas County Health Department offers a variety of services to men, both medical and non-medical services.

square Father Services:

Father Impact The Father Services is a voluntary program designed for male partners of a pregnant woman, or father of a child (ren), receiving services from any of the following home visitation services:

The goal of the program is to assist fathers in becoming actively involved in the lives of their child(ren) and prevention of the cycle of Un-fathered child. Studies have shown that children from absent father homes are more likely to be victims of abuse or neglect, exhibit behavior problems, drop out of school, engage in criminal behavior or become parents at as teens.

We understand that you may not be available during regular 8 to 5 hours. With this in mind, we develop the visitation schedule around your availability and location. Services are offered in North, Mid and South County.

Upon enrollment in the program you are assigned a Family Development Specialist. During this time he will assist you with developing a plan to address your needs and goals. The plan will include some or all of the following services:

  • Home and Field Visits
  • Men’s Health
  • Parenting Education
  • Discussion Groups (weekly)
  • Sports Activities
  • Advocacy
  • Case Management
  • Individual Goal Setting/ Achievement
  • Workshops
  • Referrals for needed services
  • Community Involvement Activities

square Health Services:

Men have high rates of cancer, heart disease and obesity. There are several medical screening and educational programs available at the Health Department including prostate cancer, STD and HIV, skin cancer, food and nutrition. These programs are offered at most of our locations and you can contact the location nearest you to get specific information.

Men’s Health Services supports many of these efforts and information for services in the community and the Health Department and may be obtained at 727-469 MALE (6253) from a Registered Nurse. There is also a Men’s Health Educator who supplies information and makes presentations in the community. Contact phone is 727-824-6900.

Family planning services for men are also available. This is primarily our no-scalpel vasectomy program and condom distribution. The vasectomy program, for men who have the size of family that they want is available to any man in the community on a sliding fee scale. Those interested can attend an information session to help make the decision that is right for them. The vasectomies are done by a Board-Certified Urologist. For information on this program call 727-462-MALE (6253)
