Environmental Health

Mission: Prevention of injury and disease by controlling the links between humans and their environments and to protect the public health of Florida's citizens and visitors from the effects of manmade and naturally-occurring events.

Environmental Health and Preparedness Division represents a vast array of programs and issues for the Pinellas County Health Department. Environmental Health is a branch of public health and preventative medicine. It is concerned with the prevention of injury and disease by controlling the links between humans and their environment. Environmental health programs seek to minimize or eliminate risk factors in the human environment when they threaten life and health. The basic implementation of each environmental health program component includes public education, inspection, investigations, and enforcement of public health laws.

Public Health Preparedness coordinates planning and program development for the Department of Health and other state agencies to protect the public health of Florida’s citizens and visitors from the effects of manmade and naturally-occurring events. The goals of the office are to upgrade preparedness for and response to bioterrorism, other outbreaks of infectious disease and other public health threats and emergencies.
