The Pinellas County Health Department’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides
free breast and cervical cancer screening exams including mammograms, pap smears, pelvic exams,
and clinical breast exams to women who are 50 to 64 years of age (low income, uninsured or under-insured).

The Florida Department of Health hopes to reduce the burden of cancer on all Floridians by offering
more education, early detection and treatment. In a continuing effort to increase awareness of breast
and cervical cancer and the importance of early detection, our Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection
Program offers information and education programs to the public and health professionals. Please call

Our Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the Florida Department of Health’s Comprehensive Breast
and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
Early detection is the key to successful diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and cervical cancer.
Screening Guidelines:
- Women- need their first pap test three years after becoming sexually active, but no later than the age of 21.
- Women – need a pap test every two to three years after the first test.
- Women 20 years and over should do a monthly breast self-exam.
- Women 20 years and over should have their breasts checked once a year by a health care professional.
- Women over age 40 should have a mammogram once a year.
